What is a Comprehensive Plan?
A Comprehensive Plan is a long-range guide that helps communities make informed decisions about future growth, development, infrastructure, and public investment.
Rather than regulating individual properties, the plan establishes goals, policies, and implementation strategies that guide future decisions by elected officials, the Plan Commission, and County staff.
Why Update the Plan
Pulaski County continues to experience changes in agriculture, housing, industry, recreation, and economic development. Updating the Comprehensive Plan provides an opportunity to:
Build upon community strengths
Address emerging opportunities and challenges
Coordinate planning among the County and incorporated communities
Prepare for future population and economic changes
Ensure public investments reflect community priorities
Planning Area
The Comprehensive Plan will cover:
Unincorporated Pulaski County
Town of Medaryville
Town of Monterey
The towns of Winamac and Francesville exercise their own planning and zoning jurisdiction. The planning process will consider relationships with these towns as well as neighboring counties, but they are not within the formal planning area.
Process
The Comprehensive Plan will be developed over a 12-month process with oversight from a project steering committee comprised of County staff, leadership, property and business owners, and other community leaders. There will be multiple opportunities for broader community participation throughout.
